About Me

I am a teacher, researcher, and writer living in a small college town on California’s central coast. This is a place for me to exercise my writing and thinking outside of my professional projects. You can find out more about my teaching here. I am the author of Vulgar Genres: Gay Pornographic Writing and Contemporary Fiction (University of Chicago Press, 2021) and a co-editor of Porn Archives (Duke University Press, 2014). More recently, I contributed an essay to A History of American Gay Autobiography, edited by David Bergman and Guy Davidson (Cambridge University Press, 2025). I am also one of the directors for the SLO Queer Archive Project, a public humanities project focused on queer and trans history and culture of the California Central Coast.
